SMIII 1992

Southern Miss: 11/16/91-9/5/92

Southern Miss had to wait a long time for their first chance to lose Shame Mask III, but they did manage to lose it in their first opportunity when the Memphis Tigers came to Hattesburg. Southern Miss won 23-21.

Memphis: 9/5/92-9/26/92

I believe they were actually still known as Memphis State at the time, but either way, it took the Tigers a few weeks to get going in 1992. After the openning week lost at Southern Miss, they then lost 16-15 at Cincinnati and at home 20-16 to Mississippi State. Then in week 4, the Arkansas Razorbacks came to Memphis and the Tigers won 22-6.

Arkansas: 9/26/92-10/10/92

1992 marked the first year that Arkansas played football in the Southeastern Conference. It was not a great all-around season for the Razorbacks. Although they lost their season opener at home to the non-Div. IA Citadel, they won their first SEC game beating fellow SEC newcomer South Carolina 45-7 at Columbia before losing to the Alabama team that would finish 13-0 and then losing to Memphis to get Shame Mask III. Then they lost to the Georgia team that went 10-2 before traveling to Knoxville to take on the undefeated Tennessee Volunteers. The Razorbacks managed to pull the upset, winning 25-24.

Tennessee: 10/10/92-11/14/92

Stunned by their first loss of the season to Arkansas, the Vols were not able to bounce back the following week against undefeated Alabama, losing 17-10. After a bye week, their struggle continued with a 24-23 loss at South Carolina. After another bye week, they travelled as far from Knoxville as they could get without leaving Tennessee and beat Memphis 26-21.

Memphis: 11/14/92-11/21/92

Memphis got Shame Mask III for the second time in 1992, but they didn't keep it long, beating East Carolina 42-7 in their next and final game of the season. They had a 6-5 record, much better than one might expect for a team that wore a Shame Mask on two different occassions.

East Carolina: 11/21/92-end of the season

ECU had no more games to play in 1992.
