SMIII: 1988

Alabama 1/2/88-9/10/88

In 1987, Alabama peaked too early. They ran their record to 7-2 by becoming the only team to beat 10-1-1 LSU, but then they lost to Notre Dame, Auburn, and Michigan, in which they gained the Shame Mask. Starting their 1988 season a week late, they had to plenty of time to prepare for Temple and beat the Owls 37-0.

Temple 9/10/88-9/17/88

Temple only wore the mask for one week before beating the Naval Academy 12-7.

Navy 9/17/88-end of the season

Navy started 1988 with two wins, but they were both over the non-Div. IA schools James Madison and Delaware. Then they lost to Temple to take the Mask. The following week they lost to The (non-Div. IA) Citadel in a shootout 42-35, and then beat up on non-Div. IA Yale, winning 41-7. However, the next week, their Div. IA schedule began in earnest with losses to Air Force, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, Syracuse, South Carolina, and Army to end the season.
