August 30: Ball State won in their first chance to dislodge Shame Mask II, passing it on to Northern Illinois.
September 6: Eastern Michigan also succeeds in its first opportunity to take off Shame Mask IV by beating Western Michigan 21-14. Northern Illinois loses to West Virginia.
September 13:
SMII: Northern Illinois loses to Wiscosin.
SMIV: Western Michigan loses to Temple.
September 20:
SMII: Northern Illinois loses to Iowa.
SMIV: Western Michigan loses to Cal State Long Beach.
September 27:
SMII: Northern Illinois loses to Western Illinois.
SMIV: Western Michigan loses to Michigan State.
October 4:
SMII: Northern Illinois loses to Miami (OH).
SMIV: Western Michigan loses to Bowling Green.
October 11:
SMII: Northern Illinois does not play.
SMIV: Western Michigan loses to Central Michigan.
October 18:
SMII: Northern Illinois loses to Toledo.
SMIV: Western Michigan finally gets a win, knocking of Miami (OH) 27-17.
October 25:
A match-up of two Shame Mask wearing teams. Miami (OH) defeats Northern Illinois 20-6, and so Shame Mask IV is retired to the broom closet in Evanston, IL.
November 1: Northern Illinois ends their 9 game losing streak with their 16-8 win over Bowling Green.
November 8: Bowling Green ends their 1 game losing streak with their 20-17 win over Ball State.
November 15: It looks like Ball State will have to wear Shame Mask II for the second consecutive off-season after their season-ending loss at Central Michigan. Ball State did have a respectable 6-5 year despite being bookended with Shame Masks.
